Politics really do suck the fun out of work. Thanks for sharing your experience of mentally quitting before quitting out loud. And thanks for linking to Elegant Violence - it was a great read.
Thanks for commenting, Rebecca. Yeah it's funny looking back now - there were many things leading up to the decision, but this was the final straw. Feels good to finally write about it.
This is everything, John! Have had this experience too and will always regret doing the "polite" thing and keeping quiet. We live and learn though! Future Evie wont do that again!
I’m not sure I understand what “control the narrative” means. Once someone’s mind is made up and they decide you’re to blame, a self defense is not going to change their narrative. There’s nothing you could have done. There’s this great scene in Pachinko where the guy gets set up by his manager for the foul play even before the deal goes through. I liked how you told the story of quitting before you actually quit. I’m going through this right now.
Good point, Sadia. In my case, I just regret not standing up for myself more in that moment. I assumed everyone had good intentions, which wasn't the case. I need to watch Pachinko now! Read up about it and sounds exciting. Good luck with your own situation.
100% Rick. I have no regrets about leaving. Many people who believe things will get better but remain trapped in these companies/situations. So much more to life.

We live and learn! Love it. Here's to not falling into the same trap again.

Oh right there’s the series now. I only remember the book. Ah, not assuming everyone has good intentions could be another essay topic.
I loved A New Earth--great quote!
Yay! It's funny - Tolle's writing always sounded a bit 'out there' or woo-hoo for me. Happy I finally read it.
Great story John. I would have been gone at that point as well. Life is too short for other people's dramas.
